Now, when I was researching this myself. I found too many mixed answers to understand what the true answer is.
The true answer is yes, it is painful. BUT it is bearable. If I was to rate the level of pain on a scale of one to ten, I would say, 4/5 out of 10 compared to a tattoo, simply because SMP treatment is shallower than getting a normal tattoo.
Is it worth then pain? Heck yes! I am 100% glad I did it. I did not know it was possible to consciously feel my own self confidence go from a 4/10 straight to 7/10. Some people describe it as ‘low levels of pain‘. Some people say it depends on how long the session is. Pain is pain. All pain is bearable to different degrees. SMP pain is bearable.
One thing you are probably wondering, is how does it compare to the pain from getting a tattoo. Well, for one, the needle for scalp micropigmentation is thinner, and secondly, it depends where you are getting your tattoo done. Your head scalp is one of the most sensitive areas of your exposed skin, so yes, there will of course be an element of pain that some people may deem ‘more painful’ than tattoos. But I have to stress, the procedures are different even though, there are similarities.
One one I will say, things that are usually worth doing life, will include pain. Not always physical, may even be emotional pain as well.
